To: Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation Band & Community Members

From: Chief and Council

Date: July 25, 2019

On July 23, 2019, Chief and Council received the sad news of Councillor Irma Churchill’s passing.

“Councillor Churchill was a strong and deeply committed advocate for our community and our people,” stated Chief Whitecloud. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Councillor Irma Churchill was first elected to serve as a Councillor of Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation in 2008. She was re-elected in 2012, 2015 and 2018, serving four (4) consecutive terms. Councillor Churchill will be remembered for her key role in the community’s successful flood claim settlement as a member of the Negotiations Team. She was very active in representing the community at a regional level as a Board Member of Bimose Tribal Council. She greatly supported the First Nation’s vision and efforts in revitalizing education for our children and was excited to be a part of our new Education Centre.

"It was a great honour to have served our First Nation alongside Councillor Churchill. She was a loyal friend and champion of the First Nation who held a special place in many hearts,” stated Chief Whitecloud. “We will all miss her greatly and remember her with many fond memories.”

Community members are welcome to join the family at a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday August 3rd, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Embassy Ballroom of the Victoria Inn.
