Community Drum Night

We are currently compiling a list of Community Members who are interested in attending Community Drum Night.  In 2013, we were honoured with a drum that was presented to the Community by Rob Spade and Celeste Pedri.  A name has been put forth by an Elder, and its name means “Whirlwind” after a dream was shared about this drum.  Chi Miigwetch for your gift!

It is our hopes that we can gather interested Community Members to begin holding regular drumming sessions.  These sessions will include teachings about the drum, learning songs and their meanings, and a whole lot of practice.  Rob Spade, a Community member with a significant amount of knowledge regarding the drum, cultural practices, etc will be leading the practices.  It would be great to see our own Community Members drumming                                                                                                  together at various events the First Nation holds such as the Elder’s Gathering, Pow-wow, Fall Feasting, Etc.

Our little ones are the future and we need to pass down our knowledge to them.  They in turn will continue to pass these teachings and knowledge to the next generation.

If you would like to attend these drum sessions, please contact Mike Ignace so we can add your name to the list to be contacted once dates are confirmed.  It is expected that these drum sessions will commence around the end of April.
