Housing Update

Jan. 4, 2018

The Housing Policy and By-Laws were developed by the Housing Committee and professionally reviewed by Roxanne Harper, of Turtle Island Associates.  A number of recommendations came out of this review and they have all been addressed and incorporated into the current policy and by-laws.  They were further reviewed by a legal firm specializing in this area, Mike Strickland of Buset & Partners LLP, to ensure they are all legally sound.

The Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation is pleased to announce that the Housing Policy and By-Laws have been tentatively approved by Chief and Council.  We realize this has been a long process; but we truly believe we have produced a sound policy and by-laws from which our community can be best served by.

We view these documents as living documents and hope they will grow and develop with our community.  At this time, the policy is still marked draft as we await feedback from community members.  We hope that our upcoming community meeting will bring about some good discussions on the matter.

The road to get here has been a lengthy but thorough one.  This is an exciting time for the First Nation as we move forward to rebuilding our community.  We believe that our Housing Policy and By-laws will help to positively guide us into the future.

Sincerely, your Housing Committee Members:
Jackie Peters, Councillor Carmel Zoccole, Councillor Tracy Morrison, Mark Sawdo, Rikka Berkan, Tom Lebel
