We are very excited to announce that LDMLFN Band Members and their families have entered into the next stage of reclaiming their traditional ancestral lands through the Housing Lottery held on-reserve at the Cultural Complex this past Sunday (June 24, 2018).

“LDMLFN is celebrating a historic moment in the community’s history and I am honoured to be able to continue to help our families strengthen their land and kinship relationships,” said Chief White Cloud. “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to our membership and to our Housing Committee for their ongoing dedication and hard work that brought us here today.”

Community members, including Elders and children, gathered together to participate in the housing lottery, which resulted in 19 Band Members and their respective families receiving their building lots. This first phase of residential housing development will see these families building and/or erecting permanent homes on our lands. Prior to the lottery, participants were required to go through an application process which is outlined in the community’s Housing Policy. Band Members have two (2) years to build in accordance to the regulations outlined in the policy and the Ontario Building Code.

“It has and continues to be our goal to develop our lands in a safe and respectful manner, and to lead the way towards creating a “model community,” said Chief White Cloud. “I truly believe that our ancestors would be proud of what we have accomplished together as a community and I look forward to all of the work we have ahead of us.”

Any Band Member who is interested in the residential lot application process following the completion of the lottery, may contact Jackie Peters at the Band Office.
