Boozhoo Family/Members

The safety of our community and our families is our number one priority.  Due to the COVID-19 virus being declared a Global Pandemic by the World Health Organization, we all need to take proper precautions to protect our families and loved ones.  As responsible and respectful peoples, we are required to do our part to assist in minimizing the potential spread of the virus out in the larger community.

We should remember that these are all precautions, and the risk in Canada is still considered very low.  Being informed of what is happening in our communities, Canada, and the world, helps all of us to make good decisions regarding ourselves and our families.

NOTICE OF ONTARIO SCHOOL & DAYCARE CLOSURE:  All schools in Ontario will be closed from March 16th – April 6th, 2020.  Notices went out to our parents and caregivers who have children attending at our I.R. Churchill Elementary and Seventh Fire Secondary School, of an additional 2-week closure following the Spring Break.

We also received notice that these closures will apply to any Daycare Centers that operate out of a school. Therefore, we will also be extending this closure to Little Turtles Day Care for the same 3-week period.

We continue to monitor the situation closely. These precautionary measures may or may not affect our Annual events such as our Pow-Wow and Elders Gathering in June.  We will keep our membership posted.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL:  “Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam confirmed that Canada is now advising against all international travel to limit the spread of the virus. She warned that travelers could be subject to another country’s travel or quarantine restrictions, and if they become sick, they could find themselves in a health care system inferior to Canada’s system.  All travelers arriving in Canada from international points are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days as a precaution.” CBC News, March 13, 2020

The First Nation has also limited all non-essential travel for its employees in order to minimize risk and keep our employees and families healthy; as well as be available for our members.  It is recommended  that all individuals and families limit non-essential travel, and attendance at larger social events or places.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT:  Health Services delivered to clients from our main office may be impacted.  We kindly ask for your patience and understanding at this time.  You may be contacted regarding your current services should they be impacted. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Health Services at 807-622-9835 and speak with a member of our Health team.

Again, these cancellations and postponements of our family-centered events are largely due to Ontario’s decision to close all publicly funded schools and daycares within those schools.  We are assisting our families at this time to minimize contact during this three-week period.  We appreciate all that you are doing to support our children, families and loved ones.
