Boozhoo Family/Members
We are sending out this letter to provide an update regarding the seriousness of the current situation we are all facing with the COVID-19 Pandemic. It has only been a little over a week since we sent out our last correspondence, and at that time the government’s position was that the risk in Canada was considered low. A week later, we find that we are at a critical point and the virus is steadily spreading across Canada.
The safety of our community and our families is our number one priority. We are confident that our families are aware of the stringent safety precautions and measures that have been put in place across Canada. We ask that everyone follow these measures, which involve the continued practice of physical distancing, remaining in your homes, and only going out for groceries and medications (if they cannot be delivered).
Government of Canada has announced a number of financial supports that are being made available at this time. We have attached the information for your convenience.
We understand that this is a stressful time for all of us as we face daily uncertainty and concern for ourselves and our loved ones. We are all facing the fact that the lives that we have become accustomed to are changing, as we are all required to follow and live by these new restrictions.
In order to assist our families during this unprecedented time, your Chief and Council has determined that the best way to support our members is to provide a supplemental payment. This will assist our families in purchasing additional groceries and supplies at this time. This will also help to lessen possible exposure to the virus as we limit our trips outside of our homes to get groceries and essential items. Please note: This supplemental payment is not funding from ISC or INAC but is from our First Nation’s accumulated revenues.
All registered adults (18 years or older) will receive a supplemental payment of $300.00 and each registered child/youth will receive $150.00 (up to a maximum of 3 children per household). Cheques will be going out in the mail tomorrow. Until we meet again, we wish you good health and may our Creator keep us all safe.
Respectfully,
Chief and Council
